Quarter Walnut Log, Polished Acrylic

This quarter-log was salvaged from a larger fallen walnut tree in Central Ohio, and couldn't be cut down into lumber because of its shape. Luckily, the log avoided is fate as fire wood because the Amish millers I work with know I like pieces like this, and leaned it against the wall in their barn to keep for me. The quarter log is deceptively immense yet light and subtle at the same time, owing to the polished acrylic legs that support it. These legs allow the sublime log to seemingly hover in mid-air. This juxtaposition of wood and acrylic is a testament to how the oldest of building materials kept in a natural form can work in conjunction with modernity. The bench top has been finished with multiple coats of hand rubbed oil.
